Repair of a structural floor beneath a sailboat’s mast

Deformation following a previous repair

The owner of a sailboat contacts Orienta SI after noticing a sagging or depression in the structural floor located beneath the mast. This component had previously undergone repairs but was once again showing visible deformation.

Inspection and evaluation of the repair

During the inspection, we determined that the previous intervention had not been executed adequately for the loads the area was required to withstand.

The floor was situated in a structurally critical location, directly involved in transferring loads from the mast to the hull structure. Consequently, it was necessary to review the existing solution and define a technically sound repair method.

Defining the repair procedure

We drafted a new repair specification, outlining the materials, area and edges preparation, and execution procedures required to restore the component’s structural integrity.

The solution was designed taking into account the floor’s geometry, its structural function, and the loads transmitted by the mast.

Technical supervision of the work

During execution, we provided technical supervision of the repair and offered assistance in resolving the issues that arose during the process.

Upon completion of the work, we verified that the repair had been carried out in accordance with the defined procedure.
